About this event

The Morean Center for Clay is hosting Winter Wood Symposium 2026 in St. Petersburg from November 30 through December 12.

This 13-day ceramics symposium brings artists together for hands-on wood firing, kiln demonstrations, educational talks and time working alongside fellow ceramic artists.

The symposium features several kiln types, including Anagama, Groundhog, Train and Salt kilns. Lead artists include John Bradford, Scott Rutherford, Lily Denhoff and Dakota Joan Parkinson.

Participants must bring cone 10 bisque-fired ceramic work, with approximately 12 to 15 cubic feet of firing space recommended per person. Natural fiber clothing and closed-toe shoes are required, and each participant must sign up for at least one firing shift. Gloves, glaze and wadding are provided.

The symposium concludes December 12 with Woodstack 2, a celebration featuring food, wine, local artist booths and live music. The celebration is open to the public, including those not participating in the symposium.

Registration for Winter Wood Symposium 2026 costs $450.
