About this event

Be a part of the solution and stop marine debris before it gets waterlogged and degrades into micro-plastics. Sign up to clean the Harborage Marina Watergoat today.

A Watergoat cleanup involves the removal of trash and debris collected by a Watergoat, which is a floating trash trap typically placed in bodies of water such as rivers, streams, and drainage canals. These devices are designed to intercept and contain trash that flows downstream, preventing it from reaching larger bodies of water like lakes, bays, and oceans.

What will be available:

• Buckets and Greenpoly Trash Bags

• Trash Pickers

• Clean Gloves

• Tarp & Tent with table

• Stream2Sea Reef Safe Sunscreen and Sanitizer

We will be in the sun, outside, and close to nature. Here are a few items you may want to bring with you.

Recommended Preparedness:

• Bring a Refillable water bottle

• Bring a snack

• Wear sunscreen, or a hat and glasses

• A small towel for personal use

• If you get heated easily, bring a fan

Volunteers will be provided clean gloves, trash pickers, buckets and GreenPoly trash bags for collecting trash, and debris along Harborage Marina. It's recommended to bring your own items as needed because you will be outside and close to nature.

Agenda:

The event will kick off with a short welcome, passing out the gear needed. Toward the end of everyone collecting trash, a tarp will be placed down, and each bag of trash will be inspected and weighed to make an assessment of where this trash came from and what state of degradation it's in.

Water Warrior Alliance abides by The Escaped Trash Assessment Protocol (ETAP), developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Trash Free Waters program, is a quantitative survey tool which provides a standard method for collecting and assessing litter data.

Impact:

We use the data to measure the effectiveness of our cleanup campaigns. Tracking progress over time allows us to celebrate achievements and motivate our community to persist in their efforts. By actively participating in data collection and supporting Adopt a Watergoat, you become an integral part of our mission to create a cleaner, healthier environment for current and future generations. Together, we can turn data into meaningful action!

Meet near the south end of the parking lot at Harborage Marina, between the marina and the NOAA building. Help us by using Kayaks or other tools to assist in removing an average of 120 lbs of debris twice a month.
