Pinellas County superintendent Kevin Hendrick proposed closing six elementary schools and one combined school to save ($25 million) a year and cut nearly 5,000 unused seats amid falling enrollment.

Community meetings begin Monday and public comment is set in Largo on Sept. 22 with a vote expected on Oct. 13.

City preservation commissioners approved fiber-cement shingles for the Bayboro House, a historic Queen Anne landmark over Lassing Park, in place of failing vinyl siding.

The commission mandated the shingles be individually installed & match the original wood pattern to protect the building’s character and ease future upkeep.
